Kurt Gödel had issues with mental stability and chose to starve to death.  Here is an interesting article that talks about such ideas as VSED, which is an acronym for Voluntary Stopping Eating and Drinking.

  1. I think Kurt Godel believed he was being poisoned. He was one of the great minds of the twentieth century and a friend of Albert Einstein. Of course we cannot conclude that extreme intelligence creates an unstable personality but some of us are quicker to destabilise than others but we all have a breaking point.


      1. We must be very careful before we link intelligence to moral worth. Many members of ISIS are highly intelligent and have been to university. This is why we cannot claim education is a pathway to a better world.
